About
Formed in November 2005 with Amanda (vocal), Alex (guitar), Adit (guitar), Ichan (bass), and Vigo (drums) as the initial line up, Moskvitch were a cover-band who mostly covering songs from Scandinavian indie-pop bands such as Kemopetrol, Club 8 and the Cardigans as their main set list. Eventually, Camelia steps in to complete the sextet formation as the 2nd vocalist, and since then the band took a different direction to their musical exploration by focusing more on writing and performing their original songs.
Influenced by various musical genres brought by each member of the band — from jazz to heavy metal, Swedish to Japanese rock — resulting to the development of Moskvitch’s sound to be colorful, quirky and stimulating — yet, sexy and playful.
Slowly but surely, the band starts promoting their songs to various radio stations around Jakarta, Bandung and Solo, hoping to get more airplay and gain more audience. In the mid of 2006, their singles International and Love or Leave were managed to enter the indie charts in Prambors FM (Jakarta, Solo), Radio Ardan and 99ers (Bandung). During this time they also began to frequently participate in various campus events in Jakarta.
In September 2006, International was chosen to be a part of Coca Cola’s Global Music Campaign — an online campaign motored by Coca Cola and Paste Magazine (USA) which aspire to unified hundreds of indie musicians from around the world under one roof. Ultimately, in March 2007, the band managed to play its biggest gig so far — in Asia’s largest annual Jazz event — The Java Jazz Festival.
Currently, the band is undertaking a major transition after Amanda and Alex decided to call it a day and leave the band. Richoz steps in to fill the vacant guitar position — thus, change the band’s format to a 5-piece with Camelia in vocal, Adit and Richoz as the guitar combo, Ichan in bass and Vigo in drums.
With its new formation the band is on progress of tweaking and exploring their new sounds, pushing forward to the boundaries they haven’t even came across before. Surely, the band is progressing and evoluting to a whole new dimension. But the sexy, colorful, quirky and stimulating feel are still there.
It’s the essence of Moskvitch, after all!
